About SURYAKUMAR

There’s no limit to the range of shots Suryakumar Yadav has to offer when he walks out to bat. Nicknamed the modern 360-batter, the right-handed batter makes batting look effortless when he times the ball to perfection all around the park. After some supreme knocks in domestic cricket, Suryakumar Yadav made his international debut against England. The middle order batter well and truly announced his arrival in style after hammering his very first delivery for a maximum. Suryakumar Yadav then featured in Team India’s squad for the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Men’s T20 World Cup and displayed his 360-batting through some iconic knocks. Suryakumar Yadav had a superb run in the year 2022, scoring his maiden T20I century against England, followed by another against New Zealand. His remarkable consistency and impact in the format earned him the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award for 2022. He carried that momentum forward, adding two more T20I centuries at home in 2023. With four centuries in the format, he stands second on the all-time list for India in T20Is.

Suryakumar’s most iconic moment came during India’s victorious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. He will forever be remembered for his spectacular boundary catch at long-off in the last over of the final to dismiss David Miller, thus helping India seal the trophy.
However, there was more history in store for Suryakumar on the grandest of stages. Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is, Suryakumar was appointed captain of the side. Under his leadership, India won all eight bilateral T20I series they played over the next couple of years, before also winning the Men’s T20 Asia Cup in 2025. The team then went on to become the only side to defend the men’s T20 World Cup title in 2026 and win the tournament at home with captain Surya Kumar leading the charge.

As leader, he has also ushered in a new era of young, fearless cricketers, with players like Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and others flourishing under his guidance.
