Wicket Keeper
Right-hand Bat
-
Nov 11, 1994
Sanju Samson is a stylish right-handed wicket-keeper batter known for his elegant strokeplay, clean hitting and composed temperament. He made his first-class debut for Kerala at just 17 and quickly stood out, scoring two hundreds and a fifty in his next season. His early rise earned him a place in India’s squad for the 2014 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup, where he finished as the team’s highest run-scorer. Samson continued to dominate domestic cricket, scoring heavily across formats. A standout highlight came in October 2019, when he struck an unbeaten 212 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy which was the then highest individual List-A score by an Indian wicket-keeper.
His domestic consistency and IPL performances paved the way for his India debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe in a T20I. Samson’s first standout moment in the shortest format came in 2024, when he smashed a blazing century against Bangladesh at home which is the third-fastest T20I hundred by an Indian. Riding that momentum, he went on to hammer back-to-back centuries against South Africa later that year during India’s tour. With these remarkable knocks, Samson became the first player to register three T20I hundreds in a single calendar year. He also now sits third on the list for most T20I centuries by an Indian batter. Samson was part of India’s victorious teams in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and Asia Cup 2025, but his crowning glory moment came in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 when he found a place in the XI midway through the tournament and ended up as the Player of the Tournament. Samson’s incredible run saw him scoring 97(50) in the Super 8 clash against West Indies, 89(42) in the semi-final against England, and 89(46) against New Zealand in the final as India clinched a historic World Cup title at home.
Sanju Samson’s blend of timing, power, sharp wicket-keeping and big-match temperament makes him one of India’s most reliable and classy white-ball performers.
